What to Know About College Application Fee Waivers

What to Know About College Application Fee Waivers You Should Know About College Application Fee Waivers You Should Know About College Application Fee Waivers If you are applying to college and are in a difficult financial position, you should know about the prevalence of college application fee waivers for students in your position. Many parents and other adults know the application costs of applying to several schools and imprint this knowledge on younger students. Application fees for each individual college can range from $25 to $100, and if you are applying to several schools this can add up in a hurry. Luckily, there are ways to reduce this expense. Read below to find your situation. + You received an SAT or ACT fee waiver. If you already received for one of these fee waivers, it will allow you to automatically qualify for unlimited free fee waivers for schools that use the Common application, the Coalition application, or the Universal application. These three generic applications will grant you free access to around 1000 different colleges (about 800 of which are in the most popular Common application). You should receive your application fee waiver at the same time you receive your test results. Here is how you can qualify for an SAT or ACT waiver (from CollegeBoard): -Youre enrolled in (or eligible for) the National School Lunch Program -Youre enrolled in a program to assist low-income students -Your family receives public assistance -You live in subsidized housing or a foster home or are homeless -You are a ward of the state or an orphan + You didnt get an SAT or ACT waiver but still exhibit financial hardships If you havent taken these tests or did not know about the fee waivers, it is still possible to elect for a Common application fee waiver. This will allow you to apply to as many Common App schools as you want for free. The Common App has the same criteria for qualification as the SAT fee waiver (see above), with one extra criteria: You can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader (from CommonApp.org). Your school counselor will be asked to confirm your qualification for a fee waiver. Make sure you talk to them if you think you need one for your applications. + You dont qualify for either fee waiver or want to apply to non-waived schools First, you should know that around 45% of colleges on the Common App do now charge a fee (as of 2018, via USNews). This means that you have access to over 300 schools you can apply to without any charge. Many students do not realize this and assume that every application will cost them. You can also request fee waivers from schools. This is the part that can save you a lot of money if you are applying to many colleges and dont qualify for the standard waivers. Reach out to the schools that you want to apply to and request a fee waiver or fee reduction for their application. When doing so, you can explain your situation to support your need for a waiver, or you can simply ask. Colleges dont want to lose potential applicants, especially potentially desirable applicants, and most will have the funds readily available to waive many students application fees to encourage them to apply. Some colleges even send out application fees to students theyre interested in without being asked. The worst that can happen is that they deny your request or do not offer waivers. If this happens, you simply have to decide if it is still financially worth it to apply. Here are a few tips to aid you in requests: -Ask early. Admissions officers will be swamped with emails and applications in the month leading up to their deadline. Ask months in advance and they will be less busy. Asking early will also increase your chances if the school only offers a certain number of waivers per year. -State your case. Explain why you really want to apply to the school but that the cost is prohibitive for you to do so. If you were eligible for the waivers above, explain that to them. -Be polite and formal. Hopefully, this is obvious, but you do not want to be rude or short in your request. Treat an email as a regular letter with a friendly greeting and signature at the bottom. Application fees should never hold you back from applying to great colleges that can improve your future. Many schools are already free to apply to, and many others are able to waive your fee if you need it. Talk to your school counselor for more help in your application process. How to Find a Chinese Tutor Hourly Rate

How to Find a Chinese Tutor Hourly RateIt's no secret that some students need a Chinese tutor hourly rate more than others. Why? The answer is based on some simple methods that you can apply at your own pace.To start, you need to determine the specific needs of your tutor. Are they only teaching English or are they teaching Mandarin? If you're only going to be teaching English, then you'll need to determine what tutor's class you'll be in. If you're going to be tutoring Mandarin, then you may want to find out whether the instructor teaches both languages.Once you've decided which tutor you will be taking classes with, you have to decide on the time commitment you need. A tutor hourly rate for one day might not be the same as the hourly rate for five days. Do a little homework, and do your homework.Don't forget to inquire about any additional fees or extra charges if there are any. For example, most tutors charge by the hour, not by the session. If your tutor has to pay a deposit or s ome other type of fee for each class that you take, you want to make sure you ask them how much. The time commitment also depends on whether your tutor is a part-time or full-time tutor. Most full-time teachers will only teach one class per week. If you only take one class per week, then you won't get the benefit of a full-time teacher. Be sure to check out the day and time commitment of your tutor before you accept their offer. In terms of how you plan to pay for your private tutor, again, be honest. Some students end up paying through their credit cards while others will use a prepaid debit card. Regardless of the method you choose, it's important to make sure that you're covered in case something happens to your credit card or it gets stolen. In the end, finding a good teacher can be hard. As long as you follow the above guidelines, you should be able to find a great tutor for your Chinese classes.

4 Tips For Introverts Whose Career Force Them to Go Out Of Comfort Zone - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 4 Tips For Introverts Whose Career Force Them to Go Out Of Comfort Zone - Introvert Whisperer 4 Tips For Introverts Whose Career Force Them to Go Out Of Comfort Zone Our jobs have a way of putting some pressure in our lives and based on the personality of a person, they can easily adapt or find it challenging to cope up with. For instance, you may think that a sales job is most ideal for extroverts but repellent to introverts. This is just an example of the many scenarios we are struggling with out there. You can relate easily to this. Probably, you have in the past taken up jobs that are not for introverted staff. You don’t have to quit or shy away from an opportunity just because you are an introvert. It is not true that some jobs are for extroverts and that introverts can’t succeed in them. The Scientific Director of  The Imagination Institute, Scott Barry Kaufman says that the difference in between these categories of people is due to the differences in response to a neurotransmitter  called dopamine. This chemical substance, despite being of the same quantity in all people is more active in extroverts than in introverts. It provides motivation to search for external rewards such as attracting a mate, earning money and climbing the social ladder among other related things. With this understanding, here are important tips to get out of your comfort zone:- 1. Identify people who find value in you  If you are careful to look around, you will realize that you are not the only introvert. That does not mean you only go looking for people that are introverts. Reach out to the extroverts too. This will help you to survive and stretch yourself a bit. At least, being close to people who care about you will be of much help.   2. Use your personality to your advantage   Don’t feel inadequate just because you are an introvert. You should not force yourself into social activities that will take away your energy instead of giving you strength to move forward. It is not helpful for you to comprise your personality in order to please others. Sometimes it may feel that you are letting them down but the most important thing is your happiness, both physically and emotionally. If you are a natural pleaser, beware of falling for the wishes of other people and not going by your personality.   3. Remember your qualities are valid as well   One of the psychology researches, Carl Jung’s theory states that what appears to be random behavior in human beings is actually due to the differences in the manner in which people like to use their mental capacities. Your contribution in whatever capacity and approach matters a lot. Ideally, you can liberate yourself with this proposition. Don’t struggle all-day long because you feel uncomfortable reaching out to others for help. Look at your work environment carefully make use of others. Believing that you have something to offer will give you the confidence to reach out to others knowing that you too will help them at some point. The point is to observe healthy habits from your colleagues particularly those of self-advocacy and learn from them. 4. Consider what makes you happy   There will be many things to make you hate your job. However, a focus on what keeps you there will be important to help you stretch further to attain results. It is important to remain positive and focused on the things that add value to what you are doing at the moment. Step outside that comfort and hold closely to what keeps you going in your current situation. You cannot entirely rely on motivation and will-power. These are scarce resources. Instead, form a habit of sticking to things that work for you. Make sure you have identified elements that define your abilities for the type of job you do. At times, the job is valuable to you. This is especially if you are in a region with an economy that is not perfect. This attitude will make you survive in introvert-unfriendly jobs like those for the service industry among several others. Don’t be swayed away just because you haven’t found your dream job. There are many things that you could do to have an enjoyable experience.   Conclusion No job is meant for certain people as far as introverts and extroverts are concerned. There is a reason why people behave the way they do as highlighted in this article. When you find yourself in a career that wants you to get you out of your comfort zone, don’t quit. Take this challenge by yourself and apply these important tips. You win by overcoming challenges that pop up along the way. You can’t be shying away every time you face some kind of opposition in life. Your introversion is also profitable to others. Being an introvert doesn’t make you less of a person. Extroverts too will need your help. Therefore, come forth to express yourself. Dont Make Excuses...Make Connections! - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Don’t Make Excuses...Make Connections! - Introvert Whisperer Don’t Make ExcusesMake Connections! Career Attraction August 18, 2014 Communication, Dealing with Fear, Networking No responses Go to top There are plenty of reasons to dislike networking. It has the unfortunate perception of being an overused word that people use to trick professionals into attending an event in order to listen to every sales pitch under the sun. Not to mention the miles you have to drive, bad parking, avoiding cheesy pickup lines and having to repeatedly answer “So what do you do?” If you think I’m going to commiserate with you and tell you-youre right to avoid networking events, you’re wrong. (See the title of this blog!) All of those points above are excusesâ€"but lucky for you, I’m going to get you off your couch, out of your fuzzy slippers and networking in no time. Here’s how you do it: Start by finding a friend who also needs to network. Not your drinking buddy or wingman, but another professional like yourself who is also looking for a job or seeking to increase clientele for his business. Then take this friend with you. Don’t stand around speaking to your friend all evening. In fact, you shouldn’t really speak to him much at all (with the below exception). Instead, before you go, find out what your friend is looking for, in detail. Then give your friend the same information about your goals. Who are you hoping to speak to this evening? What industry or job title are you specifically seeking? Once you’re both clear on the information you each need to procure, start working the roomâ€"on opposite ends. (Literally, go to opposite ends of the venue and start speaking to people.) There are so many great benefits to this tactic: 1. You’re not attending a networking event alone. Should you be cornered by the creepy guy uttering one-liners, you can extricate yourself from the conversation by saying your friend is waiting for youover there. Way over there. 2. By not attending alone, you are much less likely to manufacture an excuse as to why you shouldn’t go. When someone is expecting you to meet them there or you are their ride to the event, your excuses begin to pale. 3. You have a second set of ears listening for opportunities for you. 4. You have someone who can make an introduction for you when they come across someone you need to meet. This is the exception to when it’s okay to chat with the friend you came with. Your friend is going to “talk you up” and say things you want to say about yourself but can’t without sounding like an egomaniac. 5. If youre shy, this forces you to speak to people because you know your friend is expecting you to network on his behalf as well as your own. 6. It makes the process fun. You and your friend can get competitive and see who can find the most qualified professionals to speak to that evening. 7. You will meet many more people and thereby increase the chances of achieving your objective. If you’re looking for a job, make sure you’re networking in the right place. As a career strategist, I teach professionals how to get the job they want, and networking is the way to do it. But like anything, the right tool used incorrectly is completely useless. A job will not fall out of the sky and into your lap, so what is your strategy for getting the job you want? What’s working for you when it comes to networking? Or, better yet, if you try this strategy, tell us how it worked in the comments! Volume of a Trapezoid Tutors

Volume of a Trapezoid Tutors A trapezoid is a 2-dimensional geometric figure which has one pair of parallel sides and one pair of non-parallel sides. We can calculate the area and the perimeter of a trapezoid but it is not possible to calculate the volume of a trapezoid because we need 3 dimensions to find the volume and a trapezoid does not have 3 dimensions. However, a trapezoidal prism consists of congruent trapezoidal bases and we can find the volume of this prism because it is a 3-dimensional structure. Example 1: Calculate the volume of a trapezoidal prism whose parallel sides of base trapezoid are 3m and 6m, height of the base is 4m andlength of the prism is 8m Given: length of the base parallel sides == a= 3m and b= 6m Height of the base trapezoid, h = 4m Length of the prism, l = 8m Volume of a trapezoidal prism, V = 1/2 *(a + b)* h * l This gives, volume, V= 1/2* 9m* 4m* 8m= 144m3 Therefore, volume of the given trapezoidal prism is 144m3 Example 2: Calculate the volume of a trapezoidal prism whose parallel sides of base trapezoid are 4m and 7m, height of the base is 5m and length of the prism is 10m. Given: length of the base parallel sides == a= 4m and b= 7m Height of the base trapezoid, h = 5m Length of the prism, l = 10m Volume of a trapezoidal prism, V = 1/2 *(a + b)* h * l This gives, volume, V= 1/2* 11m* 5m* 10m= 275m3 Therefore, volume of the given trapezoidal prism is 275m3
